Sometimes half the fun of making any object, whether a painting or tying a fly, is coming up with the name for it. This painting is from a photo taken by Mike Hyatt, my friend and business partner in Blackfly The Restaurant in St Augustine Florida. We were fishing together at Blackfly Lodge in the Bahamas when we ran into a flight of stingrays at the entrance to a small crystal clear creek south of the lodge. After finishing the painting I mentioned to Mike it was one of the most difficult paintings I had done and Mike replied it could be my Mona Lisa - hence the title.
