A scene right out of the permit fishery we have at Blackfly Lodge in Abaco, Bahamas. On certain tides and in certain moon phases (which I can't reveal) very large permit swim out of the surrounding deep water to feed on the flats for crabs, tiny lobster and small fish. I wanted to represent this scene I've seen many times in the Bahamas and I've even caught a few permit myself doing this. This was fun to paint and it just made me want to get on a boat at the lodge and look for a few rays.

His contemporary sporting art reflects the world of professional fishing
where Vaughn was a fly-fishing guide for many years. “In my travels, I always
had my camera and sketch book”, says Vaughn “I’ve filled several journals with
ideas and notes for paintings and sculptures that revolve around fish and life
on the water.”
